What is it#
The pipe thickness measurement follows the principle of ultrasonic pulse reflection: when the probe's ultrasonic pulse reaches the interface of the inner and outer pipe through the media, the pulse is reflected back to the probe. By precisely measuring the travel time, the ultrasonic processing unit rapidly calculates the pipe thickness.
The system is an independent R&D high-end system based on advanced domestic and international technology, using digital processing module technology and high-precision acquisition and processing chips. It contains the Sealion ultrasonic processing unit, the ultrasonic probe and the ultrasonic scanning box. The host circuit contains radiating, receiving, display and control circuits. The theoretical measuring resolution is 0.001mm; the actual measuring resolution is 0.01mm due to the uneven surface of the pipe and the production environment. This is at the advanced level of the industry.

Operating principle#
The system adopts ultrasonic theory, using precision high-frequency ultrasonic sensors with DSP high-speed data acquisition and processing, measuring the moving pipe and cable of the extrusion line in a non-contact way. It displays the pipe section on a touch screen, showing thickness deviation and eccentricity in various directions for the local worker — so thickness, eccentricity, ellipse and outer diameter deviation can be dealt with in time. This reduces waste pipe, shortens booting time, and saves a lot of expensive material and labour cost.

Composition structure#
Scanning box#
The scanning structure fits perfectly to any curved surface of pipe, keeping the probe pulse signal and pipe surface vertically tangent, ensuring measuring accuracy, making the ultrasonic media stable, maintaining the DSP signal constantly and reducing the effect caused by media. The structure is simple, intuitive and easy to operate.

- The number of ultrasonic probes can be 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 8 or 16 (according to the specific model)
- Ultrasonic probe protection level is IP68, so they can be fixed in the scanning box and installed inside the water tank
- Can measure multilayer pipe thickness, displaying the thickness separately for each layer

DSP / Ultrasonic digital signal processor#
- Autonomy: DSP can receive echoes fast and accurately while distinguishing clutter echoes
- Self-adjusting: even if the product material changes, DSP can self-adjust the capture window to lock the echo according to set parameters
- High accuracy: DSP processes captured signals synchronously, ensuring the accuracy of the measurement

Model (small tube) SL-Ultrascan#
The SL-Ultrascan series is a dedicated product for on-line thickness measurement of small-diameter pipes and cables, measuring OD, thickness, eccentricity and ovality in real time with data storage and report generation. Suitable for medical catheters, wires and cables, pipes and automotive oil pipes. Wall thickness 0.18–10mm, diameter 2–50mm. Its original automatic diameter-variable structure adapts automatically to different pipe specifications; the probe realizes on-line automatic centering and following, ensuring accurate, efficient and stable detection.
